According to The Star-Ledger’s web site, Giants WR David Tyree missed a chance to make a long catch on a pass from rookie Rhett Bomar.

Immediately afterward, a couple fans in attendance mocked Tyree, telling him to “use your helmet.” Tyree, of course, made a memorable catch in New York’s Super Bowl XLII upset of New England by pinning the ball against his helmet.

The newspaper’s Mike Garafolo did note that Tyree took the fans’ suggestion to heart … just maybe not the way they intended:

Tyree did use his helmet — sort of — when he picked the ball up and slapped it against his head in frustration.

While Tyree may have been upset about that drop, he can be happy about what coach Tom Coughlin had to say about him Saturday.

Coughlin revealed that Tyree has “a little bit of a hip flexor,” but made a point of complimenting Tyree’s work ethic four times in one short quote.

“He works. He’s a worker. He’s worked very hard. He has his weight down. Body fat is minimal. He’s a worker. He’s a tough guy.”
