Lance Long‘s quest to make the Cardinals’ 53-man roster got off to a solid start Thursday night as the first-year wide receiver caught five passes for 48 yards in a preseason rematch of Super Bowl XLIII, which the Steelers won, 20-10.

Long got on the stat sheet in the second quarter, showing some toughness by coming over the middle for a 7-yard pass from backup QB Matt Leinart. Four plays later, Leinart again found Long, who came just short of converting a third-and-9 by turning the corner inside the Steelers’ red zone.

Long caught two more passes — one from Leinart and the other from Tyler Palko — before finishing his night with a 19-yard reception down the left side on a throw from Palko.
