The San Diego Union-Tribune‘s Nick Canepa profiled Chargers receiver Gary Banks, a 28-year-old practice squad player who has yet to play a down or catch a pass in an NFL game, writing …

It’s all up to Gary Banks. No one else. He either makes it or he doesn’t. Coaches select players they best believe can help them win. Coaches are weird that way. If they didn’t like him, he wouldn’t still be here, but you still have to contribute in real games.

Banks will have his hands full trying to make the Chargers’ 53-man roster, especially after the team went out and signed former Buffalo Bills receiver Josh Reed, who will compete with Banks, Buster Davis and Jeremy Williams for playing time this preseason and a full-time job during the regular season.
