Gary Banks is earning praise from QB Philip Rivers, but the competition is strong. (Gregory Bull / Associated Press)

Here’s a bit of good news for Gary Banks as he continues to compete for a spot on the San Diego Chargers’ roster: QB Philip Rivers said the team’s group of undrafted rookie wide receivers is the deepest he has seen, according to the North County Times.

So the good news is that Banks is one of the reasons Rivers is singing such praise for the group of guys. On the flip side, though, with such a talented bunch, that makes it very clear that Banks is in the fight of his life — even more — to make the final 53-man roster.

He’ll have to continue catching Rivers’ eye if he wants to make the team.
