LeGarrette Blount‘s stats may not have been stellar, but he still had a good night in his first preseason action. Blount ran for a 1-yard touchdown run (see the highlight below) against the Seahawks and, perhaps most importantly, held onto the football.
There is no faster way for an undrafted rookie to get himself cut than to fumble. For Blount, who is trying to establish a role as a short-yardage runner, it is especially important to avoid turnovers.
One of Blount’s primary competitors for a roster spot, fellow undrafted rookie Stafon Johnson, suffered a devastating ankle injury. Johnson’s injury will likely cost him the rest of the season, giving Blount one less roadblock on his way to making the team.
In total, Blount rushed for 4 yards on five carries. Next up is a date with the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football, Aug. 23.
